Migrating AppleWorks files into iWork

Postby birwin » Mon 02 Nov, 2009 4:51 pm

I'm in the throws of looking at upgrading my "flowerpot" iMac to a more recent Intel version and I guess that will require ditching AppleWorks and making use of (and buying) iWork.

Has anyone had any experience, if not problems, in migrating AW files into iWork, specifically Spreadsheets into Numbers?

I've looked on a few forums but end up more confused than before I started.

re convert Appleworks

Postby glenidol » Mon 09 Nov, 2009 12:00 am

Bob, Appleworks 6 still running on my 24inch Intel iMac 10.5.8. But who knows if Snow Leopard might see the end - but abandoned by Apple of course.

Databases/spreadsheets not my thing, but there is a Wiki on NeoOffice that may be some help if you want to shift your database into that app.

I saw mention this app as being able to open Appleworks database files - you could always try a trial download.

...and there's this site with viewers/converters

Good luck with that Bob, Jude

G'day Jude, thanks for your suggestions. My fears have not materialised as migration from my old iMac went smoothly, although it would only work using the Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder. It wouldn't transfer via firewire (after going out and buying the right cable) or ethernet. As my 'new' iMac was a demo, my startup wasn't the first time it was started.

One interesting thing though, had a devils own job getting the clocks right. Andrew finally fixed it by going into the Terminal folder and changing the time parameters.

Anyway, things are running fine at present. Thanks again.

twisted pair cable is the answer

Yes, you need a twisted pair cable Bob to do transfer in target disk mode. Its a yellow cable usually.
I fortunately acquired one somewhere along the way - can't remember when. But useful to have one in the cupboard.
I have it now connecting my 24inch iMac to my adsl modem - it said to use that in the instructions.
