  1. Due to the Covid19 Pandemic our meetings and training sessions are currently being held on-line using our Apple-Q Meetings Server.
    These are being held on the 3rd and 4th Sunday’s of the Month between 2:00 and 4:00 pm with assembly starting at 1:45 pm).

  2. I am working on integrating the new site with our Apple-Q Meetings Server. So you may see a lot of strange messages showing up in the Apple-Q Information text channel on the Meetings Server.

  3. Error fixed with Apple-Q Login: There was an error that caused the login not to work correctly (Error – page not found) . I have fixed the problem but I would ask everyone to re-login to make certain that all works correctly. If you see the’ Log in’ at the top right of the menu bar change to ‘Log out’ then all should be fine. Another test is to go to the Download menu and see if you can download an item. If the ‘Download’ button is replaced by ‘Log in to Download’ then you are not logged in correctly. I have sent out an email to all members about this. Please contact me if you have any problems. Thanks.

  4. Apple-Q Site Update:
    I have updated the Help Pages to reflect the new menu items and links.
    I have also cleaned up the Login and Logout redirects – you now go to the Members Abyss page when you Login and a new Logout page when you Logout. This new page gives you the option to login again and information about not needing to use your password.

    1. Apple-Q Site Update (main changes to site):
      Finished links to Free Software (FOSS);
      Updated all Apple-Q HowTo Tutorials – available on Apple-Q-Cloud;
      Included direct links to Apple-Q-Cloud & Apple-Q-Core in the Members’ Abyss menu;
      Fixed Download Button;
      Login links in web pages now redirect to correct log in page;
      Batch mail-out to members working from this site.

  5. Apple-Q Training:
    2:00-4:00pm Sunday (assembly at 1:45pm)

    Open Training session – come along and get your questions answered and problems solved. If you wish to just drop in, get your questions answered, and leave – that is fine.

    1. Download Outages:
      Expect some file download outages while the Download Server (including the Apple-Q-Cloud & Apple-Q-Core) is being rebuilt to fix some problems. The main Apple-Q Site will still function normally – only file downloads will be off-line.

      1. ***** Download Currently Restored:
        The Apple-Q-Cloud download server (including the Apple-Q-Core) will be rebuilt in the near future. A message will be send to let members know when.

  6. Informal Meeting:
    I hope to be on the Apple-Q Meetings Server (Discord) between 2 and 4pm on Sunday (1st of May) if anyone is interested. There is a chance that I may be late as I agreed to help someone in the morning and it may run late.

  7. Download Server Rebuilt:
    The Apple-Q-Cloud download server (including the Apple-Q-Core) has been rebuilt and is running from the backup server. Once this has proved to be stable it will be cloned to the main server. The backup server is slower than the main one but should still work the same for downloads. Then more download content will be added to this main site.

  9. Apple-Bug Magazine 2022-05

    This Month’s Apple-Bug Magazine is now available on-line.

    This month’s Apple-Bug [Under the Downloads menu]

    Now that the Apple-Q-Cloud is linked to the main Apple-Q site accessing it is much easier (under the Members’ Abyss menu). So for a bit of relaxation Leigh has written a series of Apple-Q HowTo Tutorials about some of the great features of this site.

    These include:

    Apple-Q-Cloud Sync:

    The NextCloud Server that we use to power the Apple-Q-Cloud has a Desktop app that you can use to sync all or part of the contents of the Apple-Q-Cloud.

    Apple-Q-Cloud- New Apple-Q Tutorial Alert:

    Watch the Apple-Q HowTo Tutorial (Synced) folder. It can alert you when a new tutorial has been added.

    Apple-Q Tutorials- Download All or Whole Topic:

    In just a few clicks you could download all of the tutorials on a topic or even the whole Apple-Q HowTo Tutorial collection!
    Apple-Q-Cloud- Share Large eMail Attachments:
    Use the Apple-Q-Cloud to send email attachments of up to 1000MB.

    Apple-Q-Cloud- iPad App:

    You can view the whole Apple-Q-Cloud within the app and selectively choose which tutorials to keep a local copy of along with which folder you wish to sync.

    Other Articles:

    There is also a tutorial about importing a family tree into Gramps along with its media. Jude’s Findings also returns with lots of great Apple information. MacMost video tutorials are great as usual plus there is an article from Be Connected on 8 ways to protect your privacy online.
    I hope that you find this issue of our Apple-Bug magazine a great read and please visit our Apple-Q web sites and see all of the wonderful resources the Apple-Q has to offer!

  10. Apple-Q-Information: Apple-Q Server Down for Maintenance:
    Work on the Apple-Q Server (Apple-Q-Cloud & Apple-Q-Core) Wednesday Night after 10:00pm for a couple of hours.

  11. Apple-Q-Information: Main Server Updated.

    The Apple-Q-Cloud & Apple-Q-Core have been running on the Backup Server. This had been used to test out my new server build. Since it has been running well for the last two weeks, I have now erased the Main Server and placed the new build on it.

    The Main Server is a Mac Mini i7 with 1.5TB of SSD, so it should run better.

    This Main Server is now live. Please let me know if there are any problems.

  12. Apple-Q Meetings Server – this Sunday 2:00 to 4:00pm

    I intend to be on the Meetings server during the above time if any members have questions or just wish to chat. I can demonstrate some of the topics in the Update Email that I sent if members are interested. Specially the passwordless navigation between all 3 Apple-Q Sites all from the one menu as well as easy access to the Apple-Bug in just 5 clicks!

  13. Apple World Wide Developers’ Conference (WWDC):

    Sorry – I was thinking of ‘3:00am tomorrow’ as being the night of the next day. What I should have stated was ‘3:00am on the 7th of June’. So that is tomorrow morning as I am writing this. So have a look at it tomorrow morning when you wake (or watch it live at 3am!).

  14. Apple-Q Meeting – New Time: Sunday 19th of June, 1:00 to 1:55pm

    This Month’s Meeting will be held on the Apple-Q Meetings Server at the above date and time.

    Invitation to Monthly Meeting: https://discord.gg/QbGvxFeJ?event=985803786171867137

    This month’s meeting will be held at the earlier time of 1:00pm. Assembly will begin up to 10 minutes prior to this time – at 12:50pm but feel free to drop in any time.

    I will trial this new time to see if it is more suitable to members. We have had members needing to leave early due to various reasons, so this may suit them better. This time also matches up with the closing time of our meetings prior to Covid19.

    More details will be available later this week – when the Apple-Bug is ready.

    With the Apple-Q Meetings Server we are not limited to specific days or times. So if there is a preference for other days and times please let me know. We could even have members who are interested in specific topics (eg Family History, Beginners, etc) having separate meetings.

    We currently have 24 members who have joined our Meetings Server. If you have not yet done so, then feel free to contact me, read the Apple-Q tutorials, Apple-Bug Articles or even the Discord video guides if you require assistance.

    Apple-Q President

  16. Apple-Q Meeting Information:
    New Time: Sunday 19th of June, 1:00 to 2:55pm

    Tomorrow’s meeting will be held an hour earlier (starting 1:00pm) and run until what used to be our ending time of 2:55pm.

    Like our previous meeting it will be fairly informal and cover topics that the members attending wish to cover.

    Possible topics include:

    • Upgrading your current Mac, iPad, iPhone,… either to a newer model or a new version of the operating system. Should you? (the Apple-Bug contains all of the new updates);
    • Access settings in the Apple-Q Meetings Server + new text feature;
    • Quick Video Clicks (Apple-Q HowTo Videos);
    • Q&A – ask those (Apple) questions that have been bothering you.

    It is very easy to access the Apple-Bug Magazine – it only takes 30 seconds – here is proof: Watch This!

    You can also join this month’s meeting is even less time – Watch This!

    These are a couple of examples of Apple-Q HowTo – Quick Videos. You can now access all three Apple-Q Sites in under a minute! (Apple-Q, Apple-Q-Cloud, and Apple-Q-Core). How? Come to our meeting and see for yourself!

    My aim is to make Apple-Q Services, along with over 1000 Apple-Q Publications, easier for members to access.

    Please contact me if you are having any problems at all accessing anything.

  17. RE: Location of music files (library): Here is an article about where your personal music files are stored (https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/music/mus69248042d/mac). You can find the current location by going to the Music app, open the music menu at the top and select Preferences… then go to the Files tab at the top. The folder with your music is stored is listed there.
    Mine was no in the default location as I forgot that I moved it to an external drive for more space.
    The above question was brought up at the last meeting.

  18. Apple-Q Monthly Meeting:
    In light of the current Optus Data Breach and the need to protect your personal data and on-line electronic identity Be Connected has a series of articles and information on how to protect yourself on-line and what to do if your data has been compromised.

    I will cover the do and do-nots of on-line and email security.

    There will also be Q&A and general information.

    See you an our Apple-Q Meeting Server – Sunday 16th of October 2022 at 1:00pm (assemble from 12:45pm).

    Last month I listed various questions that members often ask and need answers to. However we did not get far on that list due to other question put forward by members. So here is the list again – please join our training session if you wish any of these answered or even own:

    Various questions:
    Not sure whether to upgrade or purchase a new version of you Apple Device (Mac, iPad, iPhone,…)
    Can I add additional storage or memory?
    Should I update to a newer version of the operating system (macOS, iPadOS, iOS, …)?
    Purchase an all in one Mac or modular Desktop with separate monitor?
    Will my current app still work if I upgrade?
    How do a clean up my storage on my Mac, iPad, iPhone)?
    My device is getting slower. Why, and how can I make it go faster?
    Help from Apple-Q HowTo Tutorials and Apple-Q Help Line Services.
    Come along and ask away or just pop in for a quick chat – all welcome!

    Download it from our Apple-Q web site

    Sorry for the delay – we have various issues that caused the delay in publishing this month’s issue.

    This month:

    Some members contacted us about problems that they are experiencing so we though that we would also include the solutions to their problems here since they are ones the many members may also have:

    This will be a general Help/ Q&A Session – however I will not be present as I will be attending Sam Ginsberg’s 101 Birthday Party but there is no reason why members can not get together for a discussion and self-help session.

    Topics that members have asked me for help with over the last month have been mostly covered in this month’s Apple-Bug (large 40 page) Edition but could be good help topics:

    clearing out your Mac’s drive (duplicates & finding large files,relocating photos, movies & music);
    effective backups (Mac, iPad, iPhone);
    the new iPads, macOS Ventura, iPadOS16, …

    There was also two new Apple iPads released;

  23. Apple-Q December Meeting 1:00 – 2:50pm

    I just remembered that I stated that since we have on-line meetings, that there was no reason that not meting this month. I also realise that today is the third Sunday of the month. I did not realise this until a member just sent an apology for not being able to make the meeting.

    So I will be online for an informal get-together this afternoon. So just pop-in and wish members a happy festive season / Merry Christmas. I will be very happy for people to come along, catch-up, or just say hello.

    See you then!

    Suggested Get Together
    In me previous email I suggested that members may wish to get together physically at a common location prior to Christmas. I only had a few replies about this. It may be because to the current resurgence in COVID (deaths have doubled recently – the peak is supposed to strike between mid December and Christmas).
    I would still like to have a get-together in the new year. If there are only a few I could even hold it at my place and people can get to see my Christmas Village up close.

    Harvey Christmas Village

    This has been fully completed for over a week now, however due to various reasons (one being my personal Harvey-Cloud having to be relocated and created from scratch) I have not managed to get it up on-line.
    I am hoping to have the photos up on my Harvey Cloud before this afternoon’s Meeting.
    I will send out details on how you can see the full collection once it is uploaded.

    Season’s Greetings

    If I do not get to talk to or see you before Christmas then please let me wish you a safe and happy time. Meet with friends & relatives, and enjoy this festive season. Merry Christmas!

    Leigh Harvey
    Apple-Q President

  31. Important: Possible Meeting Place
    Please Respond!
    We need to know whether this is a viable option.

    A fellow member, Barb Power, has been in contact with the Sherwood-Indooroopilly RSL. The following was their reply:

    Hi Barbara

    We can absolutely help you with a place to meet!
    Could you please let me know the dates for the year (if you have them), so I can make sure the hall is available on those dates.
    Also how many members attend meeting & what would you require from us to hold your meetings?

    Enjoy your afternoon.

    Katie Townsend
    Operations & Administration Manager
    Sherwood Indooroopilly RSL Sub Branch (<- link to their web site) Further details: Address: 2 Clewley Street Corinda, Queensland 4075 (11km WNW of Macgregor High School - 10 minutes) https://www.rslqld.org/about-us/sherwoodindooroopilly-sub-branch-inc

    I have not made any arrangements yet as I need to know what other members think about the location.
    It is not close to the major motorways, located just off the road to the Indooropilly (Walter Taylor) Bridge and very close to the Corinda Railway Station (about 150m). So railway might be a good option for some.

    I do not know anything about the cost or other details yet as I thought it best to check interest first.
    I did mention this in my President’s Report in this month’s Apple-Bug – I had two replies (few members read my report it seems or did not bother to respond).

    You can send messages to fellow members without having to have their email address or phone number. Messages and images can also be posted similar to Blogs and Message Boards. You can also arrange meetings with fellow members at a prearranged time or hold a private call with another member.

    You can also display apps running on your Mac to show or help other members (just like I do during meetings).

    Apple-Bug June 2023 [from the Apple-Q Site: https://www.apple-q.org.au/%5D

    It has been a big week for new Apple Releases, the biggest of which was a completely new type of computer – a Spacial Computer!

    The main releases, apart from the Vision Pro were (read the articles):
    Hardware: Mac Pro M2 Ultra; Mac Studio M2 Max & M2 Ultra; MacBook Air 15 inch;
    Software: macOS Sonoma; iPadOS 17, and iOS 17.

    Other articles include: WWDC23 Highlights, Mac Studio M2 Max & M2 Ultra, Comparing the Mac Mini to the New Mac Studio, New macOS Sonoma, New iPadOS 17, New iOS 17, and Other Releases. We also have our usual Jude’s Findings and Gary’s latest MacMost Video Tutorials. Gary also covers the new releases at the WWDC23.

    A good summary of the feature highlights are covered in a short video called 17 big & little things at WWDC23 which is nice to watch. I have included an article about that too.

    There were so many new things and features in all of the new OS versions that I was getting information overload. While watching and reading about it all I was finding myself thinking about how I might use it all.
